Mary Barker, PhD
Mary Barker is a senior lecturer in psychology in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southampton, UK. Her main interest is in understanding and supporting behavior change, primarily to improve diet and lifestyle.
She and a team of others in Southampton are currently running the Southampton Initiative for Health, a trial of a training intervention working with health and social care practitioners to improve the diets and physical activity levels of disadvantaged women and their families.
Mary’s interests also extend to the application of behavior change principles to changing the practice of heath care professionals in hospital settings, and to the development of theory to improve our understanding of the mechanisms of behavior change.
